The Last Time

One evening, I was sitting nearby while Lynda was preparing dinner in the kitchen. She probably thought I was watching the little kitchen TV, but I wasn’t. I was watching her.
And for some reason, a thought came over me: What if God took her home tonight? What if this were the last time I would ever see her standing there, chopping carrots on the cutting board?
That thought sent my mind in several directions at once—which, for me, isn’t all that unusual. I’m a little ADD.
I began thinking about all the “last times” that may be happening right in front of us without our ever realizing they are the last. The last ordinary conversation. The last shared meal. The last laugh. The last time someone walks through the door. So many moments seem completely ordinary until, someday, we look back and realize how precious they really were.
I sat down almost immediately and, with the help of an AI songwriting app, began putting those thoughts into words and music. The result was this song.
Of all the songs I’ve written so far, this one has become my favorite. I hope you enjoy “The Last Time .”
