When we lived in Kenya East Africa (two times over a fifteen-year period), one of my favorite pastimes was to go into a nearby Nairobi Game Park in the early morning hours with a thermos of coffee, warm bagels plus as always, my trusty film Canon camera. These images were taken in the 1980s before digital photography because the standard.
I would find a favorite location, tucked into the bushes, away from the tourists, and just sit quietly (often for hours). It was a terrific way to clear my head and just think and pray.
Often, after you have been sitting still for a while, the animals grow accustomed to you. You are just another big rock to them. Herds of zebra, giraffe and gazelle would often flock around my car.
These photos are a collection from those trips. The photo of the giraffe herd is special though. That morning, as I sat in the quietness, I "heard" my picture approaching before I saw it. The sound was a low rumble; something I had not heard before. I propped my camera on the windowsill and prepared for whatever was coming through the forest toward me. I was not disappointed. It is my all-time favorite giraffe image.
Below are a few more fun giraffe pics. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed taking them.
